People frequently tell me I have a good eye.  It’s meant as a compliment.  While yes, I often see a great photo where others don’t, it’s not due to a genetically gifted eye.  I don’t believe there is such a thing.  Like many skills, photography is learned and mastered over many years.  I frequently say it’s a great deal of practice, perseverance, and punishment. A spectrum exists in which there is an art and a science to everything. When you master a discipline, you can create things of beauty.

A few examples:

  • Photography – when you master the mechanics of composition, light, and timing, you can capture a moment in time.
  • Architecture – when you master the lines that support structures, those lines become timeless.
  • Music – when you can master your instruments of sound, you can inspire movement.
